It was four days of football, from Friday to Monday, and I must admit that it was very enjoyable, quite a few games and goals. Players showed talents and from the start, it looks like surprising season in Ekstraklasa is coming. Hopefully.
Cracovia 2-3 Śląsk Wrocław (Fojut 12' OG, Polczak 15' - Sotirović 10', Diaz 34', 55') Very, very entertaining game with great goals. Star of Cristian Omar Diaz shone, former Bolivian league top scorer found the net first two times in Poland. Also Sobota impressed, great dribbling skills and he's not selfish at all. Both managers will have concerns about their defences but it was game of attack, finally.
Polonia Warszawa 3-0 Legia Warszawa (Bruno 48', Smolarek 79', Mierzejewski 84') Although first half was very much of tight affair in Warsaw derby but it was worth waiting for the second 45 minutes of the game. Polonia started very bright, they were playing as a team, without making mistakes in defence and passing it well in attack. Bruno scored with powerful shot and Legia had to attack but they were reduced to several chances by the hosts. Polonia counted for counter attacks and it was Ebi Smolarek who made their lead double with lovely diving header. No long after this, silly mistake by guests center back and Mierzejewski finished the move with smart chip over the keeper. Strong statement from Polonia, and by any means, in the second half they looked like champions in the making.
Jagiellonia Białystok 3-1 GKS Bełchatów (Frankowski 20', 30', Makuszewski 76' - Żewłakow 39') Old boys scored 3/4 goals from this game, which was played in great heat. Sandomierski, hosts goalkeeper, fainted with 15 minutes to the end because of it. Great show from Jagiellonia wingers, they created every single goal while guests didn't have much of it all game, though being close to leveling the game once. But only once.
Polonia Bytom 1-1 Lechia Gdańsk (Sawala 38' - Buzała 88') Match of the teams that probably will fight to the last minute of the season to survive in Ekstraklasa. Quite boring game, limited chances but it will be the hosts disappointed from the result as silly mistake cost them three points. They know they must win most of the games at home as they're poor side. What about Lechia? Second draw and they looked toothless for most of the game.
Korona Kielce 1-2 Widzew Łódź (Niedzielan 18' - Sernas 33', 60') Two great goals from busy as always Sernas gave the important away win to Ekstraklasa newcomers. Korona looked very good in the early stages but then guests showed their class, getting to goals in the process. They showed that the best answer for high pressing of Korona players is... the same thing.
Zagłębie Lubin 1-2 Górnik Zabrze (Wilczek 49' - Zahorski 15', Świątek 64') Great result for guests after their low start to the league last week, now they won in Lubin, which was always hard ground. Hosts lacked striking force, made a lot of good movement but there was nobody to finish it off, while counter-attacking tactic of Górnik was a joy to watch at times. And it gave them three points.
Ruch Chorzów 2-0 Wisła Kraków (Nykiel 21', Straka 31') Really great game, fast tempo and entertaining 90 minutes with the hosts being by far the better team - organized, without weak link, well prepared physically... Wisła looked lost, their caretaker manager put even four strikers on the field in one moment but they didn't know what to do and how to play. It was another pathetic display from Wisła and only big shock (new manager perhaps) may change the look of this team.
Legia Warszawa 2-1 Cracovia (Komorowski 74', Iwański 90+4 - Ślusarski 4') Very dramatic game on Monday night, it was moved from first round. Cracovia started better and again Legia looked like a eleven players not being a team. Silly mistakes cost them as Ślusarski converted penalty and then only Antolović saved them from losing higher until half time. In the second half Legia looked better, had their chances and it was Komorowski heading fine cross from the corner kick. But the situation from added time heated up situation on the field - Cracovia keeper held the ball for far too long, indirect free kick was called and Iwański put it in far corner after Vrdoljak touched the ball. You can watch it here, but don't mind the opinion in the text, it is pathetic.
