Easy game for Wisła

That was more of a test game than real European tie but that's how it is in first qualifying rounds in Europa League. Wisła Kraków, after winning 2-0 away in first leg against FC Siauliai, proved that is much better side by hammering them 5-0 in second game. Not much to say more about the game itself, apart from scorers: twin brothers Brożek, Paweł and Piotr got one each, Maciej Żurawski in his first game in Kraków after coming back from European career got one, also Diaz and Boguski scored in the second half.

TACTICS. Few things about tactics, but as I said, it was more a test game than real competition for Wisła so with better rivals it may not be that easy. Let's get it started.

Wisła played 4-1-3-2, although in first line Żurawski was the player operating behind Paweł Brożek. Sobolewski played in holding midfielder role, clearing the lines and passing mostly to Garguła. Creative central midfielder, was playing closely to the right side where we could see really promising cooperation between Boguski and Cikos (right-back).

Czech defender was really active in Wisła attacks, and although we could see he is not good in one on one situations, crossing and over leaping are his advantages. Also, both players on the right side were supported by Żurawski, who was very active throughout the game, calm on the ball, creating space and situation for his teammates. Piotr Brożek on the left was typical wide player, rather unlikely to move from the line. His defender, Junior Diaz, preferred to get with the ball through the middle where he was playing for Wisła under previous management.

Paweł Brożek was in typical finisher role, often not seen but always waiting in the line with two central defenders, ready for through pass from Garguła. It was typical scheme from Wisła, Sobolewski playing to Żurawski or Garguła, and one of them passing to incoming wide players or striker.

Pressing was not really needed as players from Lithuanian team didn't play that good, didn't have any idea how to attack, and since 16th minute were playing with ten man, thanks to moment of madness from Kancelskis, their central defender.

How to stop Wisła? Rivals should press on Garguła as after very long injury he is not so confident on the ball as he used to. Also, provoking Sobolewski seems like a good idea, as he may get early card and then play with less bravery in defence. Żurawski is not so fit as he used to as well, so holding midfielder should be playing just before back two, shouldn't have many problems with tracking him and making him quiet. Even in this game Wisła was caught at many (too many) offsides so focused last line must be aware of this danger.

OTHERS. Ruch Chorzów hold onto 0-0 draw with FC Valetta from Malta, and advanced to another round where Austria Vienna awaits. It is pathetic result which could be a outcome of rumors that this club in poor financial condition and after Europa League exit may be forced to sell Sobiech or Sadlok to pay their debts. Wisła will play with Qarabag (Azerbaijan), also from next round, Polish cup winners, Jagiellonia Białystok joins and has to play against Aris Saloniki. Should be interesting ties.
